Domaine du Cellier aux Moines is one of the most historic estates in Burgundy, founded in the 12th century by the Cistercian monks of La Ferté, the first daughter abbey of Cîteaux. Located in the heart of Givry, the domaine played a vital role in establishing the reputation of Côte Chalonnaise wines during the Middle Ages, when its vineyards were highly prized by the Dukes of Burgundy and the popes in Avignon. After centuries of changing hands, the estate was revitalized in the early 21st century by the Pascal family, who undertook extensive restoration of both the 13th-century monastic buildings and the vineyard holdings, reestablishing the domaine as a benchmark of quality in the region. The family farms their plots with great care, focusing on organic practices and precise vineyard management to showcase the authenticity of Givry’s limestone terroirs.
